Fated Mates meets Clash of the Titans!

Melanie Jacoby is the human vessel for the Muse of Tragic Poetry, but she isn’t prepared for the tragedy of finding her roommate dead at the bottom of the stairs.

Nate Malone is the detective assigned to the case, but as the evidence points to an accidental fall, the visions begin. He sees a killer in a gold Kronos mask.

Mel is the next target, but Nate’s determination to protect her is almost as strong as his desire for her.

And tragedy isn’t part of his plan.

The Prophecy – “Every generation the nine daughters of Zeus are reborn, and with their rebirth are also nine Guardians. They will be marked by the gods, and given gifts to protect his treasure. Their abilities will only be unlocked when they find their muse.”

My Review

Paranormal romance is one of my favourite genres. My guilty pleasure if you will. So when the chance came up to review this one I was all in.

This book is set up around the Greek Myths. Not something I have encountered before in this genre. I found it a refreshing change from the usual characters you come across.

The Story

Mel is just a normal woman, all be it with the soul of a muse. In her case the muse of tragic poetry, she’s a half glass empty kind of a girl. Nate is just a normal police detective, until he meets Mel and everything he thought he knew got turned on its head.

The muse’s seem to be on someone’s hit list. Who’s and Why? This book has a really good pace to it. The need to solve Mel’s roommates murder and ensure she isn’t next are well written with credible police investigations. We get to see early on who is behind it all and why. It was interesting to see how everyone else caught up.

We know where this is heading, don’t we?

Given the genre, it is fairly obvious where we are going with the two main characters. However, I liked how they interacted, it wasn’t overly sickly sweet. They had real concerns and real demons they had to work through.

The sex scenes are well written, not overly graphic but with enough detail to make you hot under the collar. I also liked the nod to safe sex, something you see rarely written.

Final Thoughts

This is a great book, it has a good pace, some heart in the mouth moments and is easily read in one sitting if that’s your thing. Although the story wraps up for Mel and Nate there is an overarching story line that (from my quick research) is continued in the next books.

Lisa Kessler isn’t an author that I had heard of before. Given I’m such a fan of the genre I found this shocking. I will certainly be binge reading the rest of this series at the next available opportunity. If you are like me you are going to love this book.

Many thanks to Rachel for inviting me onto the blog tour. I did purchase the book myself, however, it was free at point of sale. This is, as always, an honest review.
