Midnight’s Monthly Musings

Posted September 30, 2018 by midnightreview in Off topic posts / 0 Comments

Welcome to my first monthly musings blog spot, I’m sure it will evolve as time goes on, but essentially I would love to fill you in on what’s been happening, what I’ve been enjoying and what I’m looking forward to.

Back to school!

September, that joyous time when the schools go back and the kids finally learn to share …… their germs. Unfortunately the house has been hit with various bugs, I don’t think we’ve had a week yet where someone hasn’t been ill. This has meant a distinct lack of reading time on my part. Hopefully things will improve soon, I am currently nursing a stonking cold thanks to the youngest, and I can pick back up with the reading. I feel very lost when I don’t have a book on the go.

Book/s of the month

I have only read 4 books this month, thankfully good ones! I’m hoping to up my game in October, I certainly have some good ones lined up. Back to this month and two very different books that just top the list. Firstly City of Lies, a beautifully written fantasy novel with a good who dun it plot line. You can read my full review here

Secondly, The Light Between us, find the review here. A story of female friendship, unrequited love and time travel. I was introduced to Katie Khan by a fellow blogger, and I have become a massive fangirl. Her writing is unique and intriguing, I am very much looking forward to future books.

Television

I have included this, this month because of A Discovery of Witches. As of yesterday I have seen three episodes and I am loving it! I’m not always a fan of movies/TV series being made into books. True Blood – need I say more?! But A Discovery of Witches so far is proving to be a brilliant example of how it should be done. Three down five to go – I will have a full book vs TV review when it finishes.

Future Reads

As an avid reader I have so many books on my TBR (to be read) pile, but there are two I am moving to the top of the pile. Tempests and Slaughter by Tamora Pierce, this will be my first foray into her world. I have heard a lot of good things about it and can’t wait to dive in. The other is Shiang by CF Iggulden this is the second installment in the Empire of Salt triology. You can read my review for Darien, his first book here. There were so many places CF Iggulden could have taken his story I am looking forward to finding out which direction he went in.

So that is my month – how was yours? What are you looking forward to reading in October? Let me know below.
